Choice Boards in the Elementary Classroom

Project background

This was a collaboration with one of the elementary schools in the Iowa City Community School District. Teachers at this building were exploring ways in which they might provide more student agency while also amplifying soft skills like collaboration, creativity, communication, and critical thinking.

I created a self-guided experience for teachers that consisted of five phases [1] Explore, [2] Build/refine, [3] Access, [5] Examples, [6] Extension. Each of these phases provided varying levels of complexity.  Intentionally differentiating this self-guided experience allowed teachers to walk away with a completed product that they could employ with students the very next day.
